In a mounting head for holding a measuring or marking-off tool on a coordinate measuring or marking-off instrument, a high stability is achieved at the same time as a minimum space requirement even when the adjusting movements are performed about a pivot axis and a swivelling axis by means of electric motor drives (52, 76). For this purpose, the pivot axis projects from a connecting piece coupled to the measuring or marking-off instrument as a stub axle (6), which is connected in a rotationally fixed fashion to the connecting piece and is provided with a toothed rim (8) into which there engages a driving pinion (42) of a rotary drive (52, 49, 47) which is attached to a mounting head adapter which is mounted on the stub axle, serves for its part to mount the swivelling axis and in addition to the rotary drive also supports the swivel drive (76), whose driving pinion (68) engages in a toothed rim (66) which is provided on the swivelling axis and is connected thereto in a rotationally fixed fashion. This arrangement makes it possible to accommodate the rotary drive and the swivel drive with respect to the pivot axis in cylindrical or hollow cylindrical spaces which coaxially surround the latter and partly penetrate one another and to carry out the rotary adjusting movements or swivelling adjusting movements without the rotary drive and the swivelling drive moving relative to one another.
