In order to adapt the roller circumferential speed of a driven strip guidance and/or speed measurement roller in the case of production and further-processing rolling arrangements for strip material, the rotation-speed control loop, with subordinate current regulation, has a functional element (16) for determining those motor current levels of the roller drive motor (6) which correspond to the required rotation speeds (n1) calculated from the rolling material and rolling arrangement parameters. The motor current levels (iv) formed in this way are supplied to a correction comparison element (17). This uses them to calculate difference values as current correction values (iK) from which a correction regulator (18) forms corresponding rotation-speed correction values (nK). These pass to the rotation-speed required value adding element (9) of the rotation-speed control loop for correction of the required rotation-speed value (n'1), in such a manner that the rotation speed and hence the circumferential speed of the roller is adapted to the speed of the strip guided by it.
