The invention relates to a shape measure for checking the accuracy of coordinate measuring machines. In order to provide a shape measure which can be used as universally as possible and is also suitable for simulating complicated radially symmetric three-dimensional surfaces, the invention envisages providing a base plate, which rests on the table of the coordinate measuring machine, is constructed as a precision pivot bearing and is provided with a test piece, with scanning points for determining position in the coordinate system of the coordinate measuring machine, and that the rotation angle of the base plate can be set exactly with respect to a starting position. Moreover, the test piece is arranged obliquely in space on the base plate and its position is known down to the ppm region. In this case, the test pieces are furnished as simple geometrical shaped elements which can be produced with high precision and have uniformly curved shaped surfaces.
