The invention relates to a method of influencing the emission of primary particles, in particular in the welding of pipes 3, 4 made of chromium-nickel steel or the like, and devices for carrying out the method. In the interior of the pipes 3, 4, the welding zone 6 comprising the weld and the heat-affected zone is uniformly acted upon by pressure gas to prevent the development of particles. It is also possible for the primary particles arising there to be drawn off at the emission point. A device consists of a rod-shaped basic body 7 in which a blind hole 9 is formed coaxially to the centre axis 8. The inside end section 10 of the blind hole 9 is connected to the outer circumferential surface 12 by means of radial wall apertures 11. The outside end section 13 of the blind hole 9 can be connected to a gas-supply or gas-disposal device. The basic body 7 is guided free of abrasion in the pipes 3, 4 (Fig. 1). IMAGE
