The invention relates to novel ion reflectors which are mainly intended for use in transit-time mass spectrometry. As a result of special, cone-shaped electrodes, these ion reflectors also have special ion-optical properties, which is made possible by an optimum compensation of the spherical and chromatic aberrations of both the ion transit times and of the ion trajectories. The temporal and spatial focusing of the ions achieved thereby results in high mass resolutions and high transmissions for transit-time mass spectrometers.
