The literature on the focusing of ultrasonic beams is reviewed. Abstracts of the documents cited are given and pertinent conclusions are summarized. These include a function for the variation of the echo intensity as a point of reference and the possibility of rotating the target to decrease the intensity of a given echo. Emphasis is on the dimensioning of flaw geometries. Approximately 80 bibliographies are included.
