The triggered gripper trap is used for combating musk-rats. It is used on terrain on which it is difficult to walk. The minimal weight necessary therefor is fulfilled by low outlay in terms of materials and individual parts. An environmental awareness which is important to us requires traps which trap the musk-rat securely and exclude the trapping of birds. This requirement is also fulfilled by the described trap in that a particularly uncomplicated, simple and unique release mechanism has been developed, which, when using bait for trapping, is only released when the pulling, feeding release movement, such as that effected by the musk-rat or the like, takes place. Since traps of this generic type permit metal frames to move together in a gripping manner, there are also dangers for the users. These are prevented, however, since the traps are immediately automatically secured during setting. The handling, which is necessary for setting traps, as is the case with other traps, with complex mechanisms is dispensed with. This trap is designed such that it is suitable only for trapping by bait. All traps which are suitable for various methods of trapping are not safe for birds because every passing animal can come into contact with the trap, thus releasing it.
