The platform for suspending on the steps of a stepladder or lean-to ladder comprises a tread surface which is rotatably fastened on struts which exhibit, at their respectively free ends, a hook which engages partially around the step. In order to achieve a centre of gravity located in the plane of the ladder and a tread surface for the entire foot of the user, the invention provides that the centre of the tread surface is at the level of the step located therebeneath and bears on part of the strut, that, furthermore, part of the tread surface projects forwards and the other part of the tread surface projects rearwards beyond the step, and that, moreover, the strut forming the point of rotation for the tread surface rests on one step and on the step located therebeneath.
