The stepladder, with at least two hinge-interconnected sections, sidepieces and rungs, has a top piece (8) which can be fastened on at least one ladder section and which has a standing platform (9), which fits round the upper end of the ladder, and a foot which projects downwards from the platform. The foot engages between the sidepieces (4) of at least one ladder section (2) and can be brought into tilt-resistant supporting engagement with at least two rungs (5). An independent claim is included for a top piece for a stepladder.
