If the changes are to be detected by means of measurements of the fluid pressure, there is a problem that the magnitude of a pressure change resulting, for example, from a leak is dependent on the quantity flowing through. This dependence is eliminated by carrying out two pressure measurements, to be precise on the one hand for a pressure drop of the fluid in the flow direction, for example at a diaphragm, and on the other hand, for the determination of the absolute fluid pressure. The results of the two measurements are transformed into standardised signals. The standardised signal for the pressure drop is respectively transformed into a value simulating a specific leakage. An actual leakage is indicated when, given the same flow, the standardized signal for the absolute pressure of the fluid assumes the value of the standardised signal for the pressure drop which simulates a leakage. In the case of such an agreement between values, a signal is output by a comparator comparing the two standardised signals. In the same way, other changes in the pipe network such as, for example, narrowing of pipes, can be detected.
