A gas vent device in a die-casting apparatus is specified, which apparatus has a casting bush and mould halves, between which a mould cavity is formed. The mould halves are provided with a gas vent channel which is connected to the mould cavity in order to permit gas in the mould cavity to be led out into the environment. The gas vent channel is arranged on the downstream side of the mould cavity, and a gas vent control valve is provided at the downstream end of the gas vent channel. A detection element is provided on the vent channel. The detection element is connected to an electric circuit which supplies an output signal immediately upon detection of the injected material by the detection element, in order to actuate a valve drive device which is intended to operate the gas vent control valve, this output signal being maintained in order to retain the closed position of the gas vent control valve.
