The support allows work to be carried out on a rocket engine in a safe environment. It comprises a hollow float which is open at its upper end and which is disposed in a shaft full of water. The engine is placed on the float, the vertical height of which can be adjusted so that work can be carried out on any part of the engine from the same floor level. Should the engine accidently fire, the thrust of the engine forces the float downwards causing water to be driven into ducts which supply nozzles to direct water onto the engine.
