The invention relates to a new variety of retrovirus called LAV-II, a sample of which has been deposited with CNCM under the no. I-502. It also relates to the antigens capable of being obtained from this virus, in particular the proteins p13, gp32 and gp110-120. These various antigens can be used in the diagnosis of the disease, especially by placing in contact with a serum from the patient for whom the diagnosis has to be carried out. Finally, it relates to the immunogenic compositions containing more particularly at least one of the two glycoproteins gp32 and gp110-120.
