The housing is preferably made from plastic and is nearly rectangular. The two longer sides each have locating and driving lugs (4) which fit into slots in driving posts (12) to give locomotion along the production line. Thee locating lugs (4) are thin at their line of attachment to the housing and this facilitates their final removal. In addition to the locating and driving lugs each of the two longer sides of the instrument housing has further locating bosses (6) (7) which have circular and elliptical apertures respectively (8) (9). The machine which places the instruments into their housing has pins (13) which engage with the apertures in the locating bosses so that the instruments are positioned accurately. ADVANTAGE - System can be used without modification for various types of instrument housing.
