PRECAST GEL SYSTEM FOR TWO-DIMENSIONAL ELECTROPHORESIS

PURPOSE: To separate, for example, a complex protein mixture easily and accurately without gel or dissolved substance being distorted and disturbed by providing a slab gel, a piece-shaped gel solution, and a protection layer. CONSTITUTION: When an upper space is placed at a given position, a piece- shaped gel solution 26 is left and is solidified to a gel. When the gel is fully formed, the spacer is loosened. Then, a protection layer 25 is eliminated itself or is left at the site when it is electrically insulated. When the protection layer 25 is in the form of liquid, it is emptied or is sucked and a space is left between two types of gels. Also, the protection layer 25 is a low-melt-point solid or has a melt point within a range of about 25 deg.C to about 75 deg.C. This kind of material is poured in the form of liquid over an upper edge 24 of a slab gel 23, is cooled, and is solidified before the solution 26 is added. Once the latter is solidified, a system is heated again and the protection layer 25 is heated again higher than its melt point, and the layer 25 is returned to liquid shape again and is poured or sucked.
