PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform detection accurately by extracting organic silane compound that is present on the surface of glass fiber with a solvent whose permittivity epsilon is 15 or less, and measuring the infrared-ray absorbing spectrum of the extract with an infrared-ray absorption spectrometer. CONSTITUTION:Glass fiber is generally used as a reinforcing material. The form can be any of mono-filament, glass cloth and the like. Here, an organic silane compound is a material called a silane based coupling agent. Said compound usually comprises the following parts: an organic chain part which brings about affinity and bonding property with an organic macromolecular compound; and a part having a hydroxyl group or alkoxy group for forming a chemical bonding between silicon and an inorganic material through oxygen atoms when said compound is treated on the surface of an inorganic material. As a solvent used for extraction, there is no specific limitation when the relative permittivity epsilon(25 deg.C) of the solvent is within the range of 1 - 15. It is desirable, however, that the organic silane is soluble, the solvent itself is stable and reactivity is low. The most desirable range is 1 - 5.
