PURPOSE:To extract and separate Pd both with good selectivity and efficiency by bringing di-n-hexane sulfides contg. specified ratio of higher alcohol into contact with acidic aqueous soln. of hydrochloric acid contg. mainly Pt, Rh, Pd and base metals. CONSTITUTION:In processing, of electrolytic Cu slime in Cu-refining, acidic aqueous soln. of HCl contg. mainly Pt, Rh, Pd, and base metals which is produced in slime treatment process in Ag-electrolysis, treated as following: 1) separation of Au from said acidic aqueous soln. of HCl by means of solvent extraction process and the like where butyl carbitol, as a well known extracting medium, is used. 2) allowing the residual soln. to come into contact with d-n- hexyl sulfide to which higher alcohol (e.g. n-hexyl alcohol) is added 3 to 12% by volume. 3) extraction and separation of Pd selectively by using aforementioned organic extracting solvent by restriction of Bi and Pt to extract into organic phase with the above procedure, wherein high purity di-n-hexyl sulfides e.g. over 99wt% is preferable, to inhibit the extraction of Bi and Pt.
