PURPOSE:To determine a frequency component of a signal with a smaller apparatus from components in a total matrix by a method wherein a characteristic matrix of 2X2 is determined corresponding to a data obtained from the sampling of a signal at a specified time interval and matrixes thus obtained are multiplied sequentially to obtain one matrix as a whole. CONSTITUTION:An original signal output 3 obtained from an optical system of an angular velocity sensor is made as continuous time function f(t) to determine a frequency component from t1 to tN+1. First, T second of time t=t1-tN+1 is divided in N a signal f(t) is sampled and held at each time, namely, (tN+1-t1)/N. Then, in a process of determining a characteristic matrix M(i) of 2X2 corresponding to a sampling data, a (2X2) matrix Mi is produced as shown by formulas I and II from sample values f(ti) (i=1, 2...N). Then, a matrix M(ti) is multiplied sequentially to determine one matrix MT with the multiplication of matrixes two at a time sequentially, for example, by combining M(i), M(i+1).... In this manner, a total matrix MT is determined by a formula II in a section T.
