PURPOSE:To obtain a display device commonly used as a reader by composing the said device of a display part and a substrate edge surface provided on the surface of the substrate and/or an original read image scanner part provided near it. CONSTITUTION:The title device consists of a substrate 1, a display part 2 and a substrate 1 edge surface provided on the surface of the substrate 1 and/or the original read image scanner part provided on the substrate 1 near it. In the image scanner part, a light emitting element 7, a light emitting element driving circuit 10, a light receiving element 8, a control circuit 10 to control the output from the light receiving element 8, and a light guide part 9 to project the light generated from the light emitting element 7 and to convey the reflected light from an original 3 to the light receiving element 8 are provided. Thus, the display device-cum-reader integrated type device can be realized, and the device can be made light in weight, small in size, and thin in breadth.
