PURPOSE:To obtain the composite material having high hardness, homogeneity and prescribed dimension by burning a fibrous formed body having specified volume rate of potassium titanate and the content of an inorganic binder at a specified temp. and penetrating molten light metal thereto. CONSTITUTION:A fibrous formed body having 10 to 50% substantial volume rate of potassium titanate whisker and contg., by weight, 1 to 20% inorganic binder for the whisker is formed. The formed body is burned substantially at 600 to 1000 deg.C in the air, etc. Molten light metal such as Al alloy is penetrated into the burned fibrous molded body. In this way, the potassium titanate whisker reinforced metallic composite material having prescribed shape can be obtd. without producing the shrinkage of the formed body.
