POLARIXATION MAINTAINING OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR AND FINAL TERMINAL POLARIZATION MAINTAINING OPTICAL FIBER AND CONNECTION OF POLARIZATION MAINTAINING OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE: To align the polarization axis of one fiber end with that of the other fiber end by supporting 1st and 2nd plugs by a supporting means so as to align the marking means of these plugs. CONSTITUTION: Each plug 40 has a passage extended through it, the cross section of the passage is almost a rectangle and a tab 43 is formed so as to be vertical to the major side of the rectangular passage. An optical fiber 20 to be stored in the passage of each plug 40 is provided with an external coat layer 23 having mixed structure provided with both ends and two parallel side faces and one of orthogonal polarization axes of the fiber 20 is made parallel with the parallel side faces of the layer 23. In the case of connecting two optical fibers 20, two plugs 40 are supported so that their tabs 43 are aligned. Consequently the polarization axes of the fibers 20 are aligned with each other.
