PURPOSE:To perform measurement highly accurately, quickly, automatically and continuously by separating oil and water after acidolysis, extracting oil in machining liquid and mixed oil, and detecting infrared-ray absorbance having the wavelength corresponding to the specified oil component. CONSTITUTION:Mineral acid comprising dilute sulfuric acid and the like is mixed in material under test of water soluble metal machining liquid such as cutting oil and the like, and acidolysis is performed. Then, organic solvent such as carbon tetrachloride and the like is mixed in the material under test which has undergone acidolysis. In this way, oil separation is performed, and the oil in the solvent is captured. The separated water is drained. The extracted oil is analyzed in an infrared spectrochemical analyzer, and infrared absorbances are measured and analyzed for specified two wavelengths in an infrared region. The absorbances AO and AT of the machining oil and the mixed oil of the machining oil are measured. Thus the concentration of the machining oil and the concentration of the mixed oil are obtained by computation.
