PURPOSE:To provide a surface treating agent capable of undergoing a uniform graft reaction without being affected by the surface shape, consisting of a block copolymer in which polyethylene oxide and a water-soluble high-molecular material having a cation exchange group are linearly bonded to each other. CONSTITUTION:A surface treating agent consists of a block copolymer having an MW of 103-106 in which polyethylene oxide and a water-soluble high-molecular material having a cation exchange group are linearly bonded to each other. Said block copolymer must have an MW of at least 103, but not more than 106. When the MW is less than 103, it is difficult to handle the block copolymer, while when it exceeds 106, there is a disadvantage in that the viscosity of a block copolymer soln. during a graft reaction is too high and a subsequent washing stage for the surface of a treated material requires a long time. USE:Artificial internal organs, separation membrane, medical materials, anti- fogging materials.
