The amt. of the absorbed hydrogen is determined by an increase in the electrical resistance of the wire 3 and the concn. of the hydrogen in the high temp. high pressure steam is measured in accordance with calibration data. The film 1 consists of a metal which does not form any oxide film on the surface in high temp. water and has large power to allow permeation of hydrogen. A PdAg alloy, Ni or the like which is free from hydrogen embrittlement is preferable for said metal. Ni or SUS is preferable for the material of the metal 2. A metal such as Pd, V, Ti or the like which has large power to absorb hydrogen is preferable for the wire 3.
