NEW MATERIAL:A IX type collagen in which the condroitin sulfuric acid bonded to the core protein has 300000-1300000 molecular weight and a composition of 25% D-glucuronosyl-N-acetylgalactosamine-4-sulfuric acid, 64% D-glucuronosyl- N-acetylgalactosamine-6-sulfuric acid, 11% L-iduronocyl-N-acetylgalactosamine-4- sulfuric acid, etc. USE:A medicine and a biomedical material. EXAMPLE:For example, an embryo is taken out of a chicken fertilized egg and a buffer solution of pH6.0-9.0 is added thereto. The resultant liquid is subjected to extraction at 4 deg.C with stirring overnight and the extract is subjected to the centrifugal separation under cooling. The supernatant is collected and solid cesium chloride is added thereto. The resultant mixture solution is subjected to ultracentrifuge and fractionated by density gradient of cesium chloride, thus obtaining a IX type collagen. In addition, a novel ultra-high molecule condroitin sulfuric acid is obtained by treating the resultant collagen with a proteolytic enzyme.
