PURPOSE:To industrially advantageously obtain the aimed compound by using a eta5-methoxycarbonylcyclopentadienylcobalt polyene complex when non- substituted or substituted pyridine is produced from alkyns and nitriles. CONSTITUTION:When non-substituted or substituted pyridine is produced from alkyns and nitriles by cyclization reaction, the above-mentioned reaction is carried out in the presence of a complex catalyst expressed by formula I - formula III [R1 is 4-12C polyene having 2-4 double bonds and capable of having 1-4 substituent groups (1-4C alkyl, phenyl or CH2CN) and Co has eta4 bond with localized electron of diene part in the polyene, except a polyene consisting of only aromatic ring; R2 is metalocyclic cyclopentadiene residue capable of having 1-4 substituent groups (1-4C alkyl or phenyl)] added to the above- mentioned reaction system to readily provide the aimed compound in high catalyst activity, quick reaction rate, suppressed production of an aromatic hydrocarbon which is a by-product and productivity and product concentration capable of industrially satisfying.
