MIXED MICELL FOR PREPARING HYDROPHOBICALLY-ASSOCIATED POLYMER

PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrophobic associated polymer which has good stability, salt resistance, etc., and is useful for a thickener, etc., without producing particles and without causing phase separation by adding surfactants, acrylamide, a substd. acrylamide, and a vinylsulfonic acid compd. to deoxygenated water and subjecting the resultant mixture to homogenization and polymn. ;CONSTITUTION: A terpolymer having a structure represented by formula IV (wherein x is 10-90 mol.%; y is 0.1-60 mol.%; and z is 0.2-10 mol.%) is obtd. without producing particles and without causing phase separation by mixing an anionic surfactant, a nonionic surfactant, acrylamide represented by formula I, a monomer represented by formula II [wherein S is a group represented by the formula: SO₃M (wherein M is an element of the group IA, IB, IIA, or IIB), phenyl SO₃M, COOM, etc.], and an N-substd. acrylamide represented by formula II (wherein R₁ is 1-10C alkyl, aralkyl, etc.; and R₂ is H, 4-18C alkyl, etc.), adding deoxygenated water to the resultant mixture to give a homogeneous reaction soln., adding a free-radical initiator to the reaction soln. to start the polymn. of the monomers, and allowing the polymn. to proceed at a sufficiently high temp. for a sufficient time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO
