PURPOSE:To set a magnetic gap simply and correctly, by a method wherein a sensor fitting body is sucked by a suction jig, a magnetic sensor is brought into contact with a rotary magnetic medium, the position of the contact is set as a position of the origin, and the amount of retrogression of the suction jig from the origin is set to be optimum. CONSTITUTION:A sensor fitting element 16 is sucked by a suction jig 38 and a housing 13 is moved and retained. Next, the jig 38 is made to proceed by a feed dial 39, so as to bring a magnetic sensor 25 into contact with the peripheral surface of a magnetic drum 22, and the position of the contact is set to be a position of the origin whereat a gap is zero. Subsequently, the jig 38 and the housing 13 are made to retrogress by the dial 39 to separate the sensor 25 from the drum 22, an output signal from the sensor 25 which changes in accordance with the movement of the jig 38 is read, and the retrogression of the jig 38 is stopped at a time point whereat the signal takes an optimum waveform. Then, a screw 19 is tightened to fix the housing 13 on the end face of a motor 20. According to this constitution, the magnetic gap can be set simply and correctly.
