CURABLE RESIN COMPOSITION AND OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE USING IT AS CORE MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To obtain the title compsn. having a high refractive index and excellent adhesiveness after curing for a short time, by adding an amt. in a specified range of a photo- and/or thermal polymn. initiators to a photo- and/or a thermally polymerizable monomers contg. a specified (meth)acrylate. CONSTITUTION:A curable resin compsn. is obtd. by adding 0.01-10 pts.wt. photo- and/or thermal polymn. initiators (B) (e.g., benzoin methyl ether, benzoyl peroxide, etc.) to 100 pts.wt. photo-and/or thermally polymerizable monomers (A) contg. a (meth)acrylate of formula I [wherein R1 is H or CH3; R2 is a group of formula II or formula III (wherein n1 is 1-5; m is 1-4)] contg. at least an etherified compd. of a brominated phenol in the alcoholic part of the ether. A cured resin having a high refractive index (e.g., 1.56) and excellent adhesiveness is obtd. after curing for a short time by using said curable resin compsn. Moreover, as this cured substance has excellent transparency, it is useful for a material for various optical members.
