PURPOSE:To make it readily possible to transform the gamma phase at room temperature through brief heat treatment into the alpha phase, by adding a small quantity of Ti to an Fe/Mn/C magnetic alloy. CONSTITUTION:0.1-2.5wt% Ti are included into an alloy consisting of 2- 20wt% Mn, 0.4-2wt% C and the balance of Fe. When the obtained alloy for a composite magnetic material at a high temperature is quenched, the gamma phase of the high temperature structure can be readily introduced into the low temperature region of room temperature, as well as if a rolled item of this magnetic alloy is annealed at a temperature of 550-600 deg.C for about 5sec in an Ar atmosphere, and is then quenched, the gamma to alpha transformation can easily be took place. Further if it is subjected to laser beam scanning in an Ar atmosphere through a 3W continuously oscillating YAG laser annealing apparatus, the gamma to alpha transformation can easily be took place to obtain an alloy for a composite magnetic material with excellent magnetic properties.
