PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound economically in an industrial scale, in high yield, by adding an aqueous solution of calcium hypochlorite having a specific effective chlorine concentration to a mixed aqueous solution of ammonia and a carbonyl compound at a specific rate of addition, thereby reacting the components with each other. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of calcium hypochlorite is added to and reacted with a mixed aqueous solution of ammonia and a carbonyl compound to obtain the corresponding azine. The reaction is carried out by using the aqueous solution of calcium hypochlorite having an effective chlorine concentration of 5-20wt%, adding the solution at a rate corresponding to 0.00025- 0.029mol/min of the effective chlorine on an average per 1mol of the sum of the ammonia and the carbonyl compound in the mixed aqueous solution, selecting the amounts of the ammonia and the carbonyl compound to 5-35mol and 2- 5mol per 1mol of the effective chlorine, respectively, and controlling the concentration of calcium chloride to 0.5-21wt% at the completion of the reaction.
