PURPOSE:To detect accurately and efficiently a damage position with the combination between the vacuum method and the sniffer method, by detecting the leak of a tubular member, where a probe gas is enclosed, by the vacuum method and examining only a leak section in details by the sniffer method. CONSTITUTION:A tubular member 6 such as a fuel bar is held on an ascending and descending table 4 of a supporter 2 by a chuck 7. A vacuum head 11 and a sniffer probe 12 are installed selectively in a test position A of a base 9. In case of the test, the vacuum head 11 is arranged in the position A, and a probe gas is pressurized and is charged into the tubular member 6, and the tubular member 6 is divided into plural sections, and these sections are checked successively for leak, and leak sections are stored in a data processing device. Next, the sniffer probe 12 is arranged in the position A, and only leak sections are examined in details in respect to position and quantity of leak. Thus, both methods are combined ingeniously to detect damage positions efficiently and accurately.
