The solution concerns the activation of the surface of cotton threads and fabric before their coloration. The principle of the solution consists in the fact that the activated surfaces are treated by low-temperature plasma of NH3 + H2O mixture (in a ratio of 4:1 to 1:1), where the output of the plasma generator is 30 to 500 W, the flow rate of the working gas (N2, Ar) is 0,1 cubic cm/s, general pressure in the system ranges from 100 to 600 Pa and the flow rate of the mixture NH3+H2O ranges from 0,2 to 1,0 cubic cm/s. High activity of negative ions formation in the mixture in the presence of water mist is made use of. The solution enables the operator to utilize 80 - 90% of the colouring agent from the colour bath. When a classical activation method is used, it is only 60%. The degree of colouring fastness is 5 according to the grey scale in comparison to degree of 4 in classical methods. The colouring time is shortened 7 times to 10 times in comparison to classical colouring time.
