Press connection of a connection piece of a tap (1) or of a fitting of cast metal to a conduit (5) whose crushing yield point and modulus of elasticity are greater than those of the connection piece (2). The wall thickness of the piece (2) is so dimensioned that it can be pressed onto an elastic conduit (5) adapted to its internal diameter. Since, for example, in the case of a plastic or copper conduit the crushing yield point and the modulus of elasticity of the conduit are smaller than those of the piece (2), an elastic support sleeve is pushed into the pipe, its crushing yield point and modulus of elasticity being greater than those of the piece (2), pressing the plastic conduit sealingly against the piece (2).
