A structural gene which encodes authentic human serum albumin - where appropriate supplemented with an upstream triplet which encodes methionine, and which, where appropriate, is extended by a synthetic prepro* leader- encoding sequence - in which the codons in a nucleotide sequence are selected with a view to a non-human host, for example yeast, selected for expressing authentic human serum albumin. The patent furthermore describes a process for preparing the gene. A recombinant DNA molecule which contains the structural gene inserted into a vector, and a host which is transformed with the recombinant DNA molecule, are also described. The patent furthermore describes a process for preparing authentic human serum albumin, an authentic human serum albumin which is the result of the process, and a pharmaceutical preparation which comprises the resulting human serum albumin.
