Rapid and simple selection of microbes suitable for biochemical conversion of cpds. poorly soluble in water becomes possible when these cpds. are applied to solid hydrophilic substrates. These substrates are fixed under aseptic ar conditions in an appropriate ag nutrient. The resulting surface is inoculated by bacterial gps. to be evaluated. Following incubation the degree of bio-conversion due to a particular strain is assessed by chemical or physical methods.
