Controlling uniformity of thickness of emulsion - using line-scan camera to monitor emulsion layer on continuous flow of aluminium strip

An aluminium strip (3) is fed (4) from a supply roller (1) to a take-up roller (2). The strip passes below a fluorescent tube (6) with a focussing lens. The light from the tube (6) forms a thin line (7) across the width of the strip. A line-scan video camera (8) scans across (9) the thin line (7). The output of the camera (8) is fed to a signal processor which determines the depth of the emulsion layer (5) on top of the aluminium strip.
