New neuronotrophic factor from brain caudate nuclei

Prepn. of neuronotrophic factor (NTF) comprises (1) homogenising mammalian brain tissue; (2) acid pptn. of the homogenate; (3) dialysing the supernatant through a membrane of mol. wt. restriction 5-10 kD and (4) chromatographic fractionation of the dialysed supernatant to separate components according to mol. wt. NTF, which is a basic protein of mol. wt. about 14400, is claimed to be new. Pref. NTF has isoelectric point about 10 and specific activity at least 0.01mg/trophic unit.
