In a new procedure for the diagnosis and therapy of tumours and/or infectious diseases, alkaloid cpds. or their salts are used which stimulate cellular immunity and are directed against tumour cells, virus-infected cells and other antigens. Cpds. having an affinitive effect on tumour tissue and exhibiting rapid accumulation are monitored after adminstration using suitable detectors of their fluorescent, radioactive and/or radiation-absorbing effects, the time course of degradation of the cpds. at the site of application and local accumulation in diseased tissue thus being established and/or direct local tumour control being facilitated by coupling to cytostatic cpds. New and claimed alkaloid derivs. are isoquinoline cpds (I) (where R1 is H or OCH3; R2 is OCH3, OH or -CH2-CH2-N(R9)-P(Y) (XR10)-N(R11)(R12) (Ia); R3 is H, OCH3 or (Ia); R4 is H, O or -CH2-CO-CH2; R4' is H; R5 is CH3, OH or (Ia); R5' is CH3 or OH; R6 is H; R6' is H or O; R7 and R7' are H; R9 is H, -CH2CH2Cl or an alkaloid residue; R10 is H, OH or an alkaloid residue; R11 and R12 are H or alkaloid residues, or R11 and R12 together represent -CH2CH2-; Y is O or S; X is O or N; R13 is OH, (Ia) or a group (Ib); R14 is OH, CH2Cl, (Ia) or a group (Ic) or (Id); and R15 is a group (Id); or R1 and R2 together or R2 and R3 together represent methylenedioxy, or R3 and R4 together represent a group (Ie), or R4 and R5 together represent a group (If)-(Ii), or R5 and R6 together represent a group (Ij) or (Ik), or R6 and R7 together represent a group (Il)-(Iq). Treatment and diagnosis of tumours or infections. The new alkaloid cpds. may also be used for the treatment of polyarthritis and as post-operative anti-inflammatory agents.
