The invention relates to a testing device for the simple and rapid determination of mechanical fracture characteristics on brittle materials, such as ceramics, rock, cement-bound materials (concrete). Using a wedge-shaped load introduction device and a rib- shaped support, a cuboidal or box-like or cylindrical (drilled core) test body, which contains a notch to accommodate the load introduction device and a starter notch, is pulled apart with a stable crack growth.
