A process for manufacturing a sheet, more particularly for coating hard fibre, chip and wood board, by impregnating an absorbent paper containing a filler, such as titanium dioxide, kaolin or barium sulphate, with an impregnating agent, followed by drying, only a proportion of the filler required for adequate opacity of the sheet being added to the paper pulp during papermaking, characterized in that the remainder of the filler is applied to the base paper in the form of a flowable or pasty substance prior to impregnation.
