GUIDE BAR FOR A SAW CHAIN OF A MOTOR-DRIVEN CHAIN SAW

AbstractA guide bar for a saw chain of a motor-driven chain sawhas a guide groove formed in the periphery thereof. The drivelinks of the saw chain have projections known as rakers whichprotrude beyond the side links of the saw chain and which areguided in the guide groove. The guide bar has at least onesupply bore in a groove wall through which lubricating oil issupplied for lubricating the saw chain. In the vicinity ofthe supply bore, a lubricant surface extending approximatelyparallel to the groove bottom is provided. This lubricantsurface extends to at least one supply surface extending asfar as the supply bore. The rakers of the drive links moveabove the lubricant surface with a narrow spacing. Thelubricating oil supplied via the supply bore is guided via thesupply surface to the lubricant surface where it forms a filminto which the rakers extend as the saw chain revolves. Thisassures that the supplied lubricating oil is picked up by therakers and carried by them to the link locations of the sawchain thereby assuring very effective lubrication.
