PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF GLYCOSYL FLUORIDES PROTECTED ON THE OXYGEN

ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTIONGlycosyl halides which are 0-acylated or 0-alkylated at leastin the 2-position are transhalogenated with alkali metalhydrogen difluorides in a polar-aprotic solvent and, ifappropriate, the product is anomerized with the addition of lessthan the stoichiometric amounts of an inorganic fluoride witha Lewis acid character. Depending on the substrate, the glycosylfluorides with the 1,2-trans or 1,2-cis configuration areobtained. The glycosyl fluorides produced by the process of theinvention are useful glycosylating agents in carbohydratechemistry.
