ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA fault diagnosis system for a rotor windingof rotary electric machines is disclosed, in which therotor winding of rotary field type is excited in DCfashion by an excitation circuit, on which an AC voltageis superposed, the impedance of the rotor winding iscalculated from the current and voltage of the AC portionflowing in the rotor winding, and the resulting impedanceis compared with a reference impedance thereby to decidea fault, if any, of the rotor winding, thus makingpossible accurate diagnosis of a rotary electric machineeven while it is running.
