ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTIONA marine propulsion installationcomprising a propulsion unit adapted to be pivotallymounted on the transom of a boat for pivotal movementrelative to the transom about a generally verticalsteering axis, the propulsion unit including arotatably mounted propeller, and an engine connectedto the propeller, a fuel conduit having a first endcommunicating with the engine for supplying fuelthereto, and a second end, a fuel tank defining afuel chamber adapted to contain fuel, and a couplingapparatus including a first member mounted on thefuel tank and including an air ventilation passagecommunicating with the fuel chamber, a valve membermovable between a closed position and an openposition for respectively closing and opening the airventilation passage, a pivotal lever movable betweena first position and second position for respectivelymoving the valve member from the closed position tothe open position, a spring for biasing the lever tothe first position, and a first fuel passagewayincluding a first end communicating with the fuelchamber, and a second end, a second member adapted tobe connected with the first member and including aprojection for moving the lever from the firstposition to the second position against the force ofthe biasing spring when the first member is connectedwith the second member, and a second fuel passagewayincluding a first end communicating with the fuelconduit and a second end adapted to be connected tothe second end of the first fuel passageway to allowfuel to flow from the fuel chamber to the fuelconduit through the first and second fluidpassageways when the first and second members areconnected.
