A method of continuously measuring the physical dimensions of mesh as it is woven, comprises capturing and freezing an image of the mesh being produced; processing the captured image to calculate the mesh parameters employing the mesh parameters in supervisory equipment and/or for production control purposes; and continuously repeating the above three steps during weaving of the mesh. The invention also provides apparatus for carrying out the above defined method, comprising a computer (8); a frame grabber (7); a display monitor (9) and/or control actuator; a camera (5) appropriate software; and suitable lighting (6), if necessary.
