A process for preparing a beverage suitable as a thirst-­quencher after physical exertion, having an isotonic or hypotonic composition, which is capable of compensating for losses of energy and electrolyte, wherein isotonic or hypotonic solutions of carbohydrates and, if desired, flavorings, vitamins and other conventional ingredients are added to permeate obtained by ultrafiltration or neutral milk or whey.
