Low loss low dispersion velocity-matched travelling wave modulator

摘要

A travelling wave modulator that modulates the phase velocity of an electromagnetic travelling wave in response to travelling wave electrical signal travelling parallel to the electromagnetic wave. The physical parameters of various layers (42,44,45,46) in the modulator are selected to optimize a figure of merit of the modulator. Suitable figures of merit are bandwidth, bandwidth to voltage Vπ ratio and difference in velocity between the electrical signal and the electromagnetic travelling wave.
