In this paper, a new crosstie overlay slow-wave structure is proposed for wideband traveling-wave type optical modulators. The simultaneous matching of phase velocity and impedance has been successfully achieved through the numerical analysis of the slow-wave electrode structure and the design of the optical modulator. This simultaneous matching can be accomplished over a wide bandwidth due to the uniform transmission line behavior of the proposed electrode structure. (Reprints)
