This process consists, during the rotation of the basket 1 of the centrifuge, to be applied to the surface of the layer of solids is deposited on the internal wall of the basket, a sensor 9 mounted at the end of an arm 10 disposed perpendicularly to a shaft situated inside the basket of the centrifuge, whose direction is parallel to that of the axis of rotation of the basket and to record the value of the angle between the position occupied by said arm to a given moment in the course of rotation and a position set beforehand as a reference position and to determine the thickness of said layer of solid deposited in a simple mathematical relation.
